Red Bull swapped Liam Lawson with Yuki Tsunoda ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix.

New Zealand motorsport racer Liam Lawson claims he is ready to go to work at Racing Bulls after his recent demotion from Red Bull. The 23-year-old had a disastrous start to the 2025 Formula 1 season with poor displays in Melbourne and Shanghai. Given his recent performances, Red Bull swapped the Kiwi racer with Yuki Tsunoda ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix. Despite this sudden setback, Lawson remained optimistic about his journey. He thanked Racing Bulls for welcoming him back before expressing his excitement about working with them again. “Thank you [Racing Bulls] for the warm welcome, I’m excited and ready to go to work at one of my favourite places [in Japan]," he wrote on Instagram.

    Liam Lawson was promoted to Red Bull Racing to compete alongside four-time World Champion Max Verstappen. He was brought in after Sergio Perez’s exit from the team but this tenure was short-lived. Lawson was 18th on the grid during the Australian Grand Prix. The season’s second race in Shanghai saw him qualify last of the 20 drivers for the sprint and main races. He finished 14th and 12th, respectively.

    In the same post, Liam Lawson opened up about his journey with the Red Bulls. “Being a Red Bull Racing Driver has been my dream since I was kid, it’s what I’ve worked towards my whole life," he said. The 23-year-old further revealed that the setback was difficult for him. “It’s tough, but I’m grateful for everything that’s brought me to this point. To every one of you who’s stood by me, thank you for all the support, it means the world," Lawson added.

      Liam Lawson previously contested 11 races with Racing Bulls before his promotion. He is set to team up with rookie Isack Hadjar on his return.
